Why you should Google yourself

Today, I wanted to share an action item for Realtors. Here’s what I want you to do: Put yourself in the shoes of a potential client. What is the first thing they are going to do when they’re shopping around for a Realtor? Google you.

Everyone should Google themselves and see what comes up on the first page. You can be the best Realtor in the city and have a database of happy clients, but if no one knows you exist, it’s hurting your business and limiting your capacity to grow. There is no reason in today’s world not to be creating content online.

This week, Google yourself, then consider the following actions to improve your ranking on Google:

  • Write: Contribute to local or well-known publications and share your knowledge — whether it’s a blog post or an interview, get yourself out there. Medium is a great tool for writing and distributing your content and having your content get discovered by others. If you’re not a good writer, create short (two minute) educational videos that provide value and upload them to YouTube, post them to Facebook, and get them out across as many platforms as possible.

  • Get reviews: Have you built up your reviews on Yelp, Google, Facebook, or Zillow?

  • Setup a personal website: Do you have a personal website with your bio, photos, and testimonials?

  • Update your LinkedIn: Dial in your LinkedIn — be consistent about adding contacts and always use personal language versus the templated text LinkedIn provides when connecting and communicating with your network.

Overall, focus on creating high-quality content across several mediums and remember that consistency is key. If you are posting and engaging constantly, your business will grow. This will create opportunities for conversations and connections and will show your passion and expertise.

It makes selling so much easier when the client calls and already knows you’re an expert because of the content you are providing online.

Remember: spend time daily ON your business, not just IN your business.
